Walking Uphill... Both Ways

This popular photo of Niagara Falls (circa 1911) was submitted by now out-of-towner Chris Fortin - thanks Chris! Funny thing about this photo - when I was a little kid, we had this photo hanging in the kitchen of the house I grew up in on Munson Avenue. My father always told us of his strife growing up and how he had to walk to school everyday in the freezing cold (y'know, the stories of walking uphill both ways barefoot on roads made of broken glass). Throughout my childhood I believed that this photo was my father and his school mates walking to school one frozen Niagara Falls morning! I also believed that he was my real father, but thats another story... (just kiddin' Pops!)

Here are a couple other amazing photos of our mighty Niagara Falls at a frozen standstill:

To Christopher and Stenz, I'm a second cousin to Burrell Hecock and I'm writing/illustrating a graphic novel about the last 24 hours of his life. I'm hoping to debut the first chapter and release it as an ebook installment on his 100th anniversary of his death, Feb. 4, 2012. I will also be creating a dedicated blog to the book so that readers may view and read the book without an ipad or kindle. I'm hoping to get the word out and maybe by late fall distribute promotional material such as posters and post cards. My plan is to release another chapter each month until the book is finished, hopefully on the 101 anniversary! I have quite a lot of reference material, but I'm still in need of some historic details about the period. My email is imnrtst@verizon.net. You can veiw some of the rough sketches at my blog www.nonigross.wordpress.com.
